CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE (NZ)
Here's a new recipe from NZ ( with a Canadian touch). Some visitors from Canada
brought us some maple syrup, so this is what I did with it.-CJ

Ingredients

PASTRY
3/4 cup plain flour
1/2 cup self raising flour
2 tablespoons custard powder
90g butter
2 tablespoons water (approx)

CHOCOLATE PECAN FILLING
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup of maple syrup
1/3 cup caster sugar
125g dark chocolate, melted
30g butter, melted
1 1/2 cups pecan nuts

Directions:

Pastry
Combine sifted flours and custard powder in large bowl, rub in butter.
Stir in enough water to make a firm dough. Knead dough until smooth, roll out on floured
surface large enough to line a 23cm flan tin, trim edges and refrigerate 15 minutes.
Pour Pecan mixture into pastry case. Bake in moderate oven (175) for about an hour
until filling is set. Cool pie in flan tin.

Chocolate Pecan mixture
Combine eggs, maple syrup, sugar, chocolate and butter in a bowl, stir in pecans.
Note: Instead of Maple syrup the original recipe called for corn syrup (Substitute if you prefer).
Also, it is very rich, so serve small pieces with whipped cream, they can always ask for more.
